Eversharp introduced the Skyline in 1941 and they were very popular. They were advertised
as being leak proof on airplanes at the same time that air travel was becoming common
place. The design is quite distinctive and the tapered end makes them fit nicely in your
pocket. Eversharp made excellent nibs and the ones that are fitted in Skylines are some of
the best. This makes these pens a nice choice for a vintage pen to use on a daily basis.
The shape of the body of these pens
reduces the size of the ink sac. The pens do not hold a great deal of ink but it is
adequate for most purposes. The taper on the pen body allows the cap to fit about half way
up the filling lever when it is on the back of the pen. Brassing is very common in the
center part of the filling lever. The early models had problems with shrinkage of some of
the plastics. This shows up in loose or missing top derby's and loose metal overlays. Both
repairs are simple but replacement parts are frequently needed. |
