Hard Rubber Crescent Filler - The design of these pens is very distinctive. The crescent filler is noticeable by non-collectors as well as collectors. The earliest models have slip caps and tend to be slimmer than the later versions. Screw on caps and pocket clips were introduced in 1910. These pens come in a wide variety of sizes. The smallest normally have #2 nibs and the largest have #7's. The pen pictured here is a #50 with a #5 nib. You can compare the size to the red and blue bar. It is 7" long and each segment is 1" long. Like most pens value increases with size. Most Crescent Fillers are black but mottled pens are occasionally found. Red hard rubber Crescent Fillers were made after 1923 but they are quite scarce.
