| The
depression of the 1930's was a difficult time for pen companies. In order to sell pens
they tried a number of things to interest the public into buying a new pen. These methods
involve innovation and to a big degree gimmicks. Nozacs have a piston filler along with a
number of interesting plastics. Most have faceted sides and many have word gauges. These
are generally very attractive pens with dozens of varieties and colors. Even with these
pens Conklin failed to survive the depression and the company was sold to a Chicago
syndicate in 1938. Nozacs are difficult to repair. The filler is aluminum and is frequently corroded. The gaskets were a rubberized cork that is usually disintegrating. The repair is both tedious and difficult and normally should be left to experts. The pens also have problems with loose or missing cap bands. |
