The 1930's
were an extremely hard time for pen companies. Many did not survive the Depression years
at all. Parker made a series of adjustments to remain in business. They made a series of
inexpensive pens commonly referred to as the depression pens. They were not widely
advertised and not a lot is known about them. They come in at least thirty colors and each
pen seems to have a matching pencil. Generally these pens come in plastic colors that were
not available in the more expensive lines. The markings are simple and they have 14K nibs
that are just marked Parker. All are button fillers similar to the early Duofolds. These
pens were made in the USA, Canada, and England and each is marked as such. These pens were sold at a difficult time when money was hard to come
by. They are generally well used and they usually show significant signs of wear and
plating wear. I have noticed that a high percentage have tooth marks. |
