In 1930 Sheaffer took advantage of the characteristics of their new plastic pens to introduce very streamlined models. These are the Balance pens. The design  proved to be very popular and the public rushed to but these new pens. The other pen companies rushed to compete with less blocky designs. The design really did not end in 1945 but the pens do become more rounded.
